Mike Colter to Narrate “City Confidential” Series on A&E

Mike has been tapped to narrate a series for the Arts & Entertainment channel called “City Confidential.” The first episode airs tonight and throughout the next seven weeks. More information below.

‘City Confidential’ episode on Berryville councilwoman’s murder airs tonight

BERRYVILLE — A “City Confidential” episode about the murder of former Berryville Town Council member Gail Smith airs at 10 p.m. today on the A&E cable television channel.

Each hour-long episode of the program, narrated by actor Mike Colter, tells the story behind a crime, the ensuing investigation and effects it had on the community, according to Erika Winkler, a publicity coordinator for A&E Networks.

In July 2009, Smith was found dead from a gunshot wound at her Berryville home. Five years later, her brother, Timothy Smith Jr., formerly of Burkeville, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Her sister, Deborah Smith, also formerly of Burkeville, pleaded guilty to felony perjury and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

The Smiths later were sentenced to 23 years‘ and eight years in prison, respectively. Those were the maximum sentences possible at the time, based on their plea agreements.

Tony Sharpe, formerly of Farmville, also was charged with first-degree murder in connection to Smith’s death. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he confessed to shooting her.

The murder apparently was committed over control of the $750,000 estate of the Smith siblings’ father, Berryville Police Chief Neal White has said based on court testimony.

“It was a terrible, terrible tragedy,” Greg Harvey, the episode’s producer, said in a phone interview on Wednesday. “Her demise was shocking” because of her popularity around town.

Along with her council duties, Smith was well-known for her community involvement. For instance, Harvey noted, she volunteered at the Barns of Rose Hill, and she helped to establish at Grace Episcopal Church a care program for Alzheimer’s patients.

Smith was “very civic-minded,” said Harvey. “She gave back so much to the community.”

That sparked the show’s interest in the case, he said during an interview last year when a production crew was in Berryville to do interviews and film scenes of the town.

Those interviewed, and who will be featured in the episode, include White; former Berryville Police Department and Clarke County Sheriff’s Office detectives who investigated the case; former county commonwealth’s attorney Suni Mackall; Gwen Malone, a friend of Smith’s; Mayor Jay Arnold and the Rev. Dwight Brown, a former pastor at Grace Episcopal. Harvey mentioned that the show interviewed Brown at his current home in Hawaii.

Everyone interviewed “was really special,” he said, in their remembrances of Smith and their willingness to talk about the tragedy.

“It’s touching that she is remembered so well,” he said.

Tonight’s episode is titled “Death Comes to Battletown,” a reference to Berryville’s original name. Harvey said the show also will discuss some of the town’s history.

A&E is on Comcast cable channel 45.

Mike Talks “Plane” With Gerard Butler On EXTRA

Mike recently sat down with EXTRA TV to talk about his film PLANE where he plays the part of suspected murderer, Louis Gaspare. Here he and his co-star, Gerard Butler, talk about the film’s impact on the in-flight movie. Gerard also mentions the private text he sent his friend, Jeremy Renner just after he had his accident. Definitely a great interview where Mike and Gerard are being fun, and knowing Jeremy will make a full recovery.

Mike to Star in “Plane” Spinoff Called “Ship”

I’m not kidding about the title. According to many sources including may valid ones, Mike will be taking his PLANE character of Louis Gaspare into his own adventure. The film called SHIP will see Gaspare tackle his own issues as he continues to escape the authorites.

Mike Colter Set To Return For ‘Plane’ Sequel ‘Ship’

Mike Colter (Evil, Luke Cage) has been set to lead a Plane sequel titled Ship.

Plane director Jean-François Richet will return for the sequel as an executive producer with MadRiver Pictures, Di Bonaventura Pictures, and G-BASE Productions also reteaming. We understand Gerard Butler won’t be starring in this one but may have a cameo appearance.

International sales firm The Veterans will discuss the project with buyers at EFM in anticipation of a late 2023 shoot. CAA Media Finance is repping domestic rights. Discussions with writers and directors are said to be underway.

The follow-up will focus on Colter’s character from Plane, accused murderer and former French Legionnaire Louis Gaspare, who escaped extradition to Toronto when Trailblazer Flight 119 went down in the Philippines and formed an unlikely partnership with Butler’s Captain Brodie Torrance to rescue the plane’s passengers and crew from pirates.

The story will pick up where Gaspare’s storyline left off — with the legionnaire disappearing into the jungles of Jolo Island. Following a high-octane showdown with the local militia on Jolo’s shores, Gaspare manages to commandeer a fishing boat and escape the Philippines. But the media circus surrounding Flight 119 has elevated his public profile, making him the subject of an international manhunt. Hoping to stay under the radar and get far away from his last known location, Gaspare hops aboard a cargo ship in East Asia that’s bound for South Africa. As he settles in for a long voyage, the stowaway discovers that the ocean vessel is transporting more than goods — it’s also being used as a ferry for a human trafficking ring.

Together with the ship’s second mate/navigator, a last-minute addition to the crew who was unaware of its illicit activities, and a passenger with military experience and a bone to pick, Gaspare embarks on a mission to take down the ship’s corrupt Captain, keep its innocent passengers safe, and liberate its captives.

Additional casting is underway.

The news of a sequel (without the original lead) comes as somewhat of a surprise given that Plane is still on release and has just crossed $43M worldwide with only a handful of territories left to unspool. The numbers seemingly add up for those involved: we hear the final budget for Plane was closer to $35M than the $50M touted at the AFM back in 2020. The movie tested well and reviews have been decent (77% on Rotten Tomatoes). It also opened number one in the iTunes Store in the U.S. and has remained there since release two weeks ago.

Lionsgate handled U.S. and some other markets on Plane and we understand the studio will have a first look domestic option on Ship too.

Colter stars in CBS and Paramount+ series Evil and

Evil Plot and Cast

Though Evil season 4’s official synopsis has not yet been made public. The spooky television program, however, will probably continue where season 3 ended. Season 3 concluded on a cliffhanger of cliffhangers.

For the last few episodes, RMS Fertility and the mystery of Kristen’s missing egg have been in focus. By eventually revealing what happened to it, the season 3 finale somewhat resolved that plotline but still, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Evil season 4 will certainly focus on Leland’s actions’ implications for Kristen. In season 3, she had a dream about a demon infant, whom she breastfed and cared for despite being scared of. Meanwhile, David needs to interpret the message “38 days, woe to Babylon” while Kristen deals with this bizarre circumstance.

Coming to the cast, includes Kristen played by Katja Herbers, David played by Mike Colter, Ben played by Aasif Mandvi, Leland played by Michael Emerson, Sheryl played by Christine Lahti, Sister Andrea played by Andrea Martin, Andy played by Patrick Brammall, and many more are there.

Evil Season 4 Release Date

Paramount+ execs have confirmed Evil season 4 to debut in summer 2023, but the exact date has not yet been announced. If the series follows the same release schedule then season 4 will premiere in June 2023 and conclude in Aug 2023.

Similar to Season 3, the fourth season will have 10 episodes to be released every week. The rest of the details related to Season 4 shall be disclosed soon.
